- I have been having serious problems connecting to our
- terminal server at work using PPP. I have a Sporster 28.8
- and posted about this in comp.os.linux.networking. After
- receiving several responses suggesting that other folks
- have experience problems with USR (and other Rockwell based
- modems) I wondered if anyone here could shed some light on
- the issue. One of the responders mentioned "spiraling death
- syndrome" and after perusing the old articles here I'm not
- sure if this is a myth or not. Actually my configuration
- seems to work well under Win95 but under Linux (stable kernel)
- I get strange behavior. Connects ok but get losts of lost
- packets and really sluggish FTP/TELNET performance. The
- modem AND software are configured for hard flow control.
-
- I was told that Win95 works because the device driver hides
- the problem in software.
-
- I know this subject is quite old but I really would like
- a clarification. Thanx for any help you can provide.
